TEMPERED VS LAMINATED
Tempered glass is the required standard for glass partitions, offering significantly higher strength and safety than annealed glass. Under the Ontario Building Code, glass used in doors, sidelites, and interior partitions must be safety glass such as tempered or laminated. Tempered glass is heat-treated for increased strength and breaks into small, blunt pieces to reduce injury risk. All of our tempered glass meets the CAN/CGSB-12.1 standard, ensuring full Canadian code compliance and reliable long-term performance.
Laminated glass is made of two or more layers of glass bonded together with a high-performance interlayer such as polyvinyl butyral (PVB)*, ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), ionoplast (SGP)*, or acoustic interlayers*. These interlayers keep the glass intact if breakage occurs, preventing shards from falling and significantly improving safety, security, and durability. Because of this structural integrity, laminated glass is an ideal solution for applications where safety, impact resistance, and performance are critical.
